UAA in 2011

In July, the UAA Council met for its last meeting during this UNITECH year in a hut in the Swiss Alps (see flickr gallery here). It was time to say goodbye to leaving council members but we could also welcome David Ward as the new Secretary General.

David joined our meeting for one day. We used the opportunity to discuss the collaboration between UNITECH International (UTI) and the UAA. Within the council, we discussed possibilities to improve our services and events based on the feedback we received from our members. In general, the feedback was mostly positive and therefore we decided only on a small number of changes. We also spent a lot of time on the final planning of the Annual Reunion. In parallel, we also started planning the next Winter Session, which we will call UAA Symposium 2012, to emphasize its professional setting.

Looking back at 2010-2011, a large number of events have been organized and some of our services received a face-lifting, e.g. the new UAA Digest which is sent to our members, CPs and APs every 8 weeks.

Both the winter and summer session have been a great success – especially thanks to all the participants. “Bridging Gaps” was the theme of the 2011 UAA Winter Session, and more than 40 UNITECH Alumni and Corporate Partners met in Hamburg to discuss the question “How do you tackle differences in your daily work?”. The Summer Session took place around the 5 beautiful villages of Cinque Terre. Embedded in a spectacular coast, facing the dark blue sea under the bright blue sky, 19 UAA members were able to practise and improve their photography skills accompanied by two professional photographers while walking around the villages or taking the boat from one to the other.

In addition, and for the first time, an event was jointly organized by two Local UNITECH Chapters (Switzerland and Italy). During a June weekend in Geneva, 43 alumni discovered the fascinating world of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

In addition, many events took place on the local level, involving current UNITECH students, alumni and also Corporate Partners. Before summer, several welcome events for the new UNITECH students 2011-2012 in the different UNITECH cities were organized.

We now look forward to the new UNITECH year with new people joining the UAA Council and Local UNITECH Chapters as well as with more and new ideas.

We hope to see you during our next events and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any feedback or comments.
