Hi, I am Aniol,
My name is Aniol Tort, I am 26 years old, and I hold a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalunya (UPC) acquired in Barcelona between 2021 and 2023. During my studies, and thanks to the Unitech Programme, I spent one semester at INSA Lyon, the National Institute of Applied Sciences, in 2022.

After that, in 2023, I completed an internship and my Master’s Thesis with the Supply Team of Direct Fastening at Hilti's headquarters in Schaan, Liechtenstein. My Thesis focused on optimizing the consumables production, within the Hilti production network. The outcome was a substantial optimization of the nail production process, a project that has been recently implemented. Finally, I secured a full-time position as a Materials Manager in the Global Logistics Department, also at Hilti’s headquarters, a position that I started in January 2024.
What attracted you to apply to the UNITECH programme?
I was attracted to the UNITECH programme because it offered the chance to study abroad, step out of my comfort zone, and develop my career with an international company. The program allowed me to experience different cultures and educational systems, which greatly improved my communication skills, ability to build relationships, and adaptability. I think that those skills are crucial in today's global work environment, so I highly recommend taking advantage of this programme to grow both personally and professionally.
What did you enjoy most about your experience in the UNITECH programme, and how has the programme helped prepare you for the next steps in your career?
For me, the best of this experience is connecting with amazing people who significantly contribute to your professional development. The UNITECH programme helps you connect with industry leaders and fellow students from various backgrounds, broadening your perspective and expanding your professional network. In addition, the programme’s focus on real-world challenges and practical applications enables you to apply theoretical knowledge in real situations, and this hands-on experience is incredibly valuable for preparing for a future global career.
What are some of the biggest trends you see in your industry, and how are you preparing for them?
Working in logistics and supply chain means facing different daily challenges, which makes it very exciting due to this uncertainty. The two biggest trends I see in these fields are supply chain resilience and sustainability. Supply chain resilience is essential for mitigating risks and maintaining business continuity through strategies like diversifying suppliers and leveraging technology for improving transparency and visibility. In my case, I am developing projects assessing risk management to contribute effectively to this area.
Sustainability is the other key aspect, with a growing emphasis on reducing environmental impacts and promoting ethical practices. In my case, I try to stay informed about sustainable supply chain initiatives and seek opportunities to implement eco-friendly strategies in logistics.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
My advice to someone just starting out in the field of logistics and supply chain is to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Engage actively with the people around you and absorb as much knowledge as possible from their experiences. This field is rich with opportunities, as it allows you to gain insights into every aspect of the process, starting from the suppliers, moving through internal production processes, and concluding with logistics to deliver products to the end customer.
Participating in experience like UNITECH programme can be incredibly beneficial. This programme not only offers academic growth but also provides practical and real-world experiences, which can be invaluable for your personal and professional development.
