UNITECH Mid Term Week in Loughborough hits the high Cs
The UNITECH Mid Term Week hosted by Loughborough University had all the elements of a great UNITECH Programme Module – opportunities for self-development, challenging work, interaction among the Network members and a lot of fun.
The beating heart of any Mid Term Week is the Case Assignment. This year we had 15 Cases provided by our Corporate Partners
Infineon, Evonik, Johnson Controls, Vodafone, ZF, SKF, Hilti, Boston Scientific, Bühler Group, Geberit and Caterpillar. The Cases brought their usual challenges, some with specific focus that needed developing; others with a very broad scope that needed narrowing in order to reach an effective conclusion. All the Case Student Groups were able to work their assignments to the satisfaction of their Corporate Case Advisers, and deliver valuable suggestions for future development. The Case presentations on Friday were of a high quality with a few great surprises. This aspect of the Mid Term Week, while challenging in terms of workload, was seen as fun by all involved.
An additional feature of the Mid Term Week was a visit to our Corporate Partner Caterpillar. A short bus ride from Loughborough brought us to their extensive premises where we were given presentations on Caterpillar, its global presence, its products and its opportunities for UNITECH Students and Alumni. Then it was time to play! We were let loose downstairs where all the major Caterpillar vehicles were set up for us to climb over, sit in, and play out our fantasies about operating such massive machines. Available also were 10 Caterpillar engineers from various departments and with a range of work experience. They were able to give constructive insight into the career available to engineers – at caterpillar and as engineers in general. This mixture of people and product gave a good overview of Caterpillar’s world and was much appreciated by all who attended.
And the third C of this report (Cases, Caterpillar, C…) is Cohort. The group that forms Students 2014/15 have come a long way since their Start Up Week back in summer 2014. They came to the Mid Term Week with stories to share about their Academic Exchanges, excitement about their upcoming internships and a strong intent to gain the most from what the Mid Term Week had to offer. They worked hard on their Cases, and supported each other in doing so. They interacted with the Corporate Case Advisors in an extremely productive way, impressing them greatly. And they drew upon the resources offered by the Coaching team.
All in all it was c-learly a great week for all who were there.
